She especially admired the brain behind many of Uriah Heep&#8217;s compositons &#8211; Ken Hensley, who&#8217;s solo-album she enjoyed just as much.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1744\" src=\"http:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley.jpeg 590w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a small curiosity: Little did she know that many years later, she would get to meet her idol, Ken Hensley, in her home town, T\u00f3rshavn, where she had the opportunity to tell him, how much his music had meant to her. She was so grateful to be able to thank him for his music.<\/p>\n<p><em>Here Elin is with her idol, Ken Hensley, in the bar Glitnir in T\u00f3rshavn in 2012:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1736\" src=\"http:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley_og_Elin-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley_og_Elin-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley_og_Elin-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley_og_Elin-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley_og_Elin-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley_og_Elin-1300x975.jpg 1300w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/KenHensley_og_Elin.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Back in the early seventies Elin could just sit for hours enjoying listening to Uriah Heep records, often together with her best friend, Maria, who shared similar taste in music.<\/p>\n<p>They also listened and head-banged a lot to albums by Deep Purple, the Doors, Black Sabbath, Steppenwolf, Free, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa, Andrew LLoyd Webber&#8217;s musical Jesus Christ Superstar (the one starring Ian Gillian as Jesus), and other albums.<\/p>\n<h3>FIRST PUBLIC PERFORMANCE<\/h3>\n<p>Elin&#8217;s first real public appearance on stage as a singer was when she was 16 years old in a play at the theatre in T\u00f3rshavn, Faroe Islands, where she sang a Faroese version of the song \u201cStreets of London\u201d by Ralph McTell translated or rewritten by herself at only 15 years old. The Faroese lyrics that she wrote became very popular. People would copy the lyrics on stencil paper and sing them at parties. The song has been recorded with her lyrics by various other Faroese bands a couple of times since then.<\/p>\n<p><em>Here is a photo from Elin\u2019s very first public performance in the old theatre in T\u00f3rshavn, Sj\u00f3nleikarh\u00fasi\u00f0, in 1974:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-107\" src=\"http:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Elin_i_Sjonleikarhusinum_1974.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"909\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Elin_i_Sjonleikarhusinum_1974.jpg 402w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Elin_i_Sjonleikarhusinum_1974-231x300.jpg 231w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>RADIO ENTERTAINER<\/h3>\n<p>After this performance she was asked to participate in a live radio entertainment show called \u201cV4\u201d in the Faroese public radio. She became well known by the Faroese public these years, because she toured the Faroe Islands with the other performers on the radio show and was heard singing on the radio many Saturday evenings in the wintertime for almost three years. T\u00f3r\u00f0ur says this about the broadcasts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;In two parts\u00a0 we hear Elin Brimheim Heinesen sing some satirical ballads and other folk songs. Elin Brimheim Heinesen has been around many music genres, from jazz to pop. The jazz club became a reknown place many Faroese musicians still remember with gratitude because it offered them an opportunity to play and listen to music never heard live before in T\u00f3rshavn. Furthermore several foreign bands and musicians were invited to the Faroe Islands to play at the jazz club, which was very inspiring for Faroese musicians. Elin was very much into jazz and blues in the second half of the seventies because of her engagement in the T\u00f3rshavn Jazz Club \u2013 so this has had a huge influence also.<\/p>\n<p>Elin also had several performances at the jazz club, among others with her uncle Svenn Brimheim, where she sang jazz and blues from The Real Book.<\/p>\n<p><em>Elin on stage with her uncle Svenn Brimheim (\u00a9 Ole Wich):<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-122\" src=\"http:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Elin_og_Svenn_i_auluni_aLaeraraskulanum_1980.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Elin_og_Svenn_i_auluni_aLaeraraskulanum_1980.jpg 558w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Elin_og_Svenn_i_auluni_aLaeraraskulanum_1980-300x204.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At that time Elin also played folk music with some of her classmates \u2013 \u00cdvar B\u00e6rentsen, guitar, and Bergur Hansen, flute \u2013 she sang and played the piano herself. She also began composing her own music mostly in folk tradition with inspiration from jazz and blues, and performed several times in the jazz club \u2013 also with other musicians.<\/p>\n<p><em>Here is Elin singing with Bergur on flute and \u00cdvar on guitar:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-91\" src=\"http:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Bergur_Elin_Ivar_1977.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Bergur_Elin_Ivar_1977.jpg 960w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Bergur_Elin_Ivar_1977-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Bergur_Elin_Ivar_1977-768x534.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>FIRST JAZZ RECORD EVER RECORDED IN THE FAROE ISLANDS<\/h3>\n<p>Elin appeared in 1977 on the first jazz LP ever made in the Faroe Islands \u201cJazz \u00ed F\u00f8royum 1\u201d (TUTL HJF 1) on the track \u201cHundasj\u00faku blues\u201d (Hangover blues) composed by Kristian Blak, which is one of the songs that has stayed the longest ever on the Top 15 hit list in the Faroe Islands (aprx. 20 weeks). The album was recorded in the legendary Faroese music producer Milson Zachariassen\u2019s studio in his cellar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3143\" src=\"https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/HJF002-Jazz-i-Foroyum.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/HJF002-Jazz-i-Foroyum.jpg 259w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/HJF002-Jazz-i-Foroyum-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The same year (1977) Elin appeared on a record for children \u201cNu ska\u2019 vi u \u00e5 sejle\u201d [TUTL HJF 3] 1977 with the band Kr\u00e6klingar and others with music made by Kristian Blak. She sang Girafsangen (\u201cThe Giraf Song\u201d)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-335\" src=\"http:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kristian-Blak-Nu-ska-vi-u-a-sejle-HJF003-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kristian-Blak-Nu-ska-vi-u-a-sejle-HJF003-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kristian-Blak-Nu-ska-vi-u-a-sejle-HJF003-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kristian-Blak-Nu-ska-vi-u-a-sejle-HJF003-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/heinesen.fo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Kristian-Blak-Nu-ska-vi-u-a-sejle-HJF003.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>TOURING IN SCOTLAND, ORKNEY AND SHETLAND<\/h3>\n<p>In the summer of 1977 Elin went on tour in Scotland, Orkneys and Shetland where she was a part of a group of Faroese folk dancers and a folk band. She also performed on stage herself with guitar player \u00cdvar B\u00e6rentsen and bass player Kolbein Simonsen and sang some of her own songs and some of \u00cdvar B\u00e6rentsens songs.
